It takes Muhammad Amirul, 31, almost an hour and a half to make it from his home in Ang Mo Kio to meet with his career coach at NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) Career Centre at the Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability.

The former security officer has been accessing e2i’s services in hopes of transitioning into a more business-focused industry where he can further develop his business acumen.

While he appreciates the assistance e2i has given, he shared that the journey to the career centre can be time-consuming, especially when juggling other commitments.

“I have been engaging with e2i for about a month now, but I live around this area [Ang Mo Kio] and it is a long trip there,” he said.

But e2i’s services are about to get way more accessible for jobseekers like Amirul.

New career centre at Ang Mo Kio

NTUC has opened its new e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) Career Centre at Ang Mo Kio (AMK) Hub on 20 May 2026. This is part of its goal to improve jobseekers’ access to career services.

The new centre marks e2i’s 28th physical touchpoint in Singapore. It will provide employment and employability services, as well as career resources for jobseekers in the northern region of the island.

Additionally, NTUC also launched its AI-Ready SG: Skills Lab, which is a workshop series aimed at equipping workers with AI skills across different three proficiency levels, namely, literate, fluent and proficient.

These efforts build on NTUC’s AI-Ready SG initiative to empower Better Workers, support Better Jobs and enable Better Matching in an AI-driven economy.

AI-Ready SG will be taken forward by the newly formed Tripartite Jobs Council (TJC), which combines tripartite capabilities to better support workers through the AI transition.

NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng, who was the guest of honour at the centre’s opening, shared that focus must not only be on training, but to ensure workers can translate new skills into better jobs and opportunities as AI reshapes the workplace.

He said: “The e2i Career Centres and the AI-Ready SG: Skills Lab help bridge this gap by supporting workers to develop relevant skills to use AI more confidently at work and even move into new roles. Through the TJC, we will work together to support workers and enterprises in navigating the AI transition with confidence.”

Expanding access to career and AI-enabled support

The new career centre will expand access to career services and AI-enabled employability support, making it easier for jobseekers to receive help closer to where they live and work.

The centre also features e2i’s first 24/7 digital lobby, the e2i Career Discovery Hub, where jobseekers like Amirul can also access career resources, job opportunities and employability tools at any time.

“This new centre is definitely better for me because I live around the area, so it is easily accessible. I have also heard there’s this new 24-kiosk that we can search for jobs and careers, so I am looking forward to it,” said Amirul.

Jobseekers can also tap NTUC resources such as the NTUC AI Career Coach, which offers AI-enabled tools including resume optimisation, interview practice, skills profiling and job recommendations.

Job Bank kiosks, including access to the e2i-IMDA Tech Elevation & Career Hub (TECH) Portal, are also available.

The new centre will also strengthen e2i’s outreach and partnerships with Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), grassroots organisations and companies in the northern part of Singapore.

Its proximity to ServiceSG will allow residents to access career and employment support alongside various Government services across multiple agencies.

e2i Chief Executive Officer Caryn Lim shared that the new centre reflects e2i’s belief that technology should amplify, not replace human capabilities.

She said: “By combining expanded physical access with enhanced digital resources such as the AI Career Coach and a new 24/7 digital lobby, we are strengthening our ability to support workers where and when they need guidance.

“This step-by-step evolution of our service delivery is especially timely amid a dynamic global economic landscape and rapid technological adoption, which continues to reshape industries, job roles and skills requirements.”

NTUC’s AI-Ready SG: Skills Lab complements the AI learning framework developed by NTUC LearningHub, offering workers structured pathways from foundational AI literacy to advanced, job-specific AI application skills. Through hands-on workshops, workers learn how to use AI tools in their daily work and deepen their AI competencies over time.

AI-Ready SG: Skills Lab

The inaugural AI-Ready SG: Skills Lab workshop, held on 14 May 2026 at the Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability, trained close to 100 participants at the AI Literate and AI Fluent levels.

The second run, held on 20 May 2026 at e2i’s Ang Mo Kio Hub Career Centre, focused on Generative AI applications for creative and marketing roles, including workflow automation and AI-driven decision making.

NTUC plans to expand the workshop series to reach more workers, including PMEs, through partnerships with industry and sector agencies.

NTUC members who complete approved AI training courses under UTAP may receive up to 50 per cent funding support for selected AI-tool subscriptions, helping workers apply AI skills in their jobs and strengthen their employability.
